The kittens of Carthusian monk are generally available by reservation only since the race is protected with zeal by its selectors and the request for these attaching cats exceeds the availability. During the Second World War, some French selectors tried to save the race of the extinction by outcrossing to Persan and British Shorthairs. However, the original cats Carthusian monks who were imported in the United States came from the French countryside, and only of these cats were employed by multiplying programs to produce and preserve the normal statute of the present pedigreed Chartreux. This beautiful race was brought to the United States by the efforts of John and Helen Gamon who were invested in finding and acquiring the beautiful cats.
